Choosing Suitable Bird Spikes?
Ready to undertake some pigeon or gull proofing work? Make sure you do not buy the wrong bird spikes. There is very little difference in price between good quality bird spikes and spikes that will let you down almost immediately, as illustrated below:
Plastic Bird Spikes
We stock the best manufactured Stainless Steel Bird Spikes in Europe, with 3 different sizes to suit every situation where spikes are suitable, e.g. ledges, roofs, pipes, chimneys. Stainless steel spikes are the best professional choice due to their discreet appearance once installed. They are the longest-lasting bird spikes and do not discolour, bend or crack over time, something that full plastic spikes are prone to do.
Our bird spikes are stackable in strips of 33cm, which means you can easlily carry over 15M of bird spikes up a ladder. These bird spikes also feature "rivet" holes for additional fastening when installing the adhesive or when using screws. The spike base is also designed with groves to allow for easy shortening of a strip without having to use a hacksaw.
Pigeon spikes and gull spikes are designed to provide effective and humane control of problem birds. The upward pointing wires or 'spikes' act as a physical barrier to the feral pigeons or seagulls without hurting them.
Bird spikes can be used to protect buildings against pigeons in a wide variety of situations, from day time perching to night roosting sites and from the narrowest pipes to the widest of building ledges. There are 3 bird spikes in the range: P14 - P20 - P32. The number refers to the number of spikes on each 33cm strip.

Positioning Pigeon and Seagull bird spikes
It is recommended to press the bird strips firmly into place, overhanging the edge of the treated ledge by 5mm. If you fit several rows of bird spikes, allow a maximum of 65mm between each row or 50mm if there is a heavy bird pressure:

MODEL G20 - protect width up to 375mm
Gull spikes have longer wires than pigeon spikes as Gulls have longer legs and can stand astride pigeon spikes. Seagulls are also very strong. If they can land nearby and walk up to the spike system, they are capable of ripping them out with their beaks. Therefore the installations need to prevent the birds from landing adjacent to areas being protected.
Cost: €8.96+VAT per metre

Please note: Spikes are not designed nor advised for installation against nesting birds, especially large gulls. For nesting seagulls, it would be advisable to use a netting solution:
Bird Spikes Adhesive for Dry Weather
AVISIL Neutral Silicone.
Clear, high quality, neutral-curing silicone adhesive. It offers excellent adhesion on most building materials including brick, concrete, stone, plaster, paint, stainless and galvanised steel, lead, copper, brass, aluminium, PVC, PPC, ceramic tiles and glass. This professional product cannot be found in DIY shops. It has a wide temperature and UV resistance. 1 tube of 310ml can install over 10 metres of Bird Spikes (use with a caulking gun).
Note: Please do not use standard silicones (e.g. used in bathrooms) with bird spikes. They contain solvents that leach out of the silicone bead, causing shrinkage which degrades the joint after a few years.
Cost: €4.06+VAT per tube
Bird Spikes Adhesive for Wet Weather
AVIFIX High Tack.
For use with a caulking gun this is a professional product that is superior to general purpose high tack adhesives found in DIY shops due to it's flexible elastic rubber movement accommodation up to +/- 20% and because it gives primerless adhesion even on damp surfaces. Avifix "High Tack" can be used where the surface is damp (i.e. suited to the Irish weather!). It offers outstanding initial grab and excellent adhesion on most building materials such as brick, stone, metal, glass, wood, PVC, GRP and nylon. 1 tube of 290ml can install over 10 metres of Bird Spikes.
Note: AviFix is much thicker than Avisil and therefore harder to apply.
Cost: €5.92+VAT per tube
