See the Red Top Fly Trap Bag in Action!
Our video below illustrates the incredible capacity and effectiveness of the Red Top Fly traps. The fly trap was placed beside a compactor and after 4 to 5 weeks it is completely full of bluebottles and houseflies. There are virtually no flies inside the compactor as they are all attracted to the trap first.
Red Top Fly Trap Catcher Specifications
Flies can be a real nuisance at any time of year, but they are particularly so during the summer months when they invade our homes, farms, smallholdings and stables. Now there is a safe and effective way to trap flies and deal with them – Red Top Fly Catcher Bag.
A unique and safe product, Red Top Fly Traps are the ultimate fly trap. They are low-cost, non-toxic, simple to use and chemical-free.
- Red Top Fly Catchers are a unique product from South Africa and are both safe and practical and easy to use. They use a non-toxic protein-based bait which lures flies through a turret into a three-litre trap from which they can’t escape.
- Around 85% of the flies caught in the trap are female. By controlling the female, the entire fly population in the area can be brought under control.
- Once caught the flies cannot escape and the flies cannot build immunity to the bait.
- Positioning: They should be situated a maximum of 15 metres away from your home, farm building or business premises so as to draw the flies away from the premises and into the trap.
- Ideal for control of houseflies and bluebottles
Instructions for Use
- Remove the red plastic top from the yellow fly trap dish and unfold the bag.
- Straighten out the mesh cone inside the bag and make sure that the hole at its apex is well open.
- Add the bait and one litre of lukewarm water (if water is milky, allow to stand for 24 hours before use).
- Replace the Red Top by clipping the lugs of the Red Top into the small holes in the cover-dish.
- The traps will start to be extremely effective after Two weeks.
Where to hang your Flytrap
- Hang the Fly Catcher outdoors in a suitable position with sufficient sunlight.
- Do not put closer than 5 metres from the fly breeding areas, e.g. manure heaps, compost heaps, chicken runs etc.
- Hang at head height or higher.
- Ideally placed between the fly breeding area and the living environment.
- In Ireland (temperate climates), you can hang them in direct sunlight.
Disposal
Slit the bag with a sharp instrument and drain it into a compost heap or a hole in a garden bed (dead flies are rich in nutrients and make good compost), or place the trap in an old shopping bag and dispose of in a rubbish bin.
Tips
- Dispose of old traps on rubbish collection day.
- Bait a new trap 3 to 4 days before disposal of the old one to ensure continuous catching.
- Top up weekly with water. Water volume should be steadily increased as the trap fills.
Warning
Flies introduce pathogens (disease-carrying germs) to the activated trap. Keep out of reach of children, pets and livestock.

Very happy with purchase, catching flies on the regular. Read reviews of the smell, but we can’t smell anything. Will buy more once this one is full.
It was slow catching flies initially for the first few days. I gave it more time and now they are all getting trapped!
Hi John, The “Red Top Fly traps” are the absolute best traps on the market for catching Houseflies and Bluebottle flies. You can do a quick search for reviews on Google and see that they are the favourite fly trap for professional pest controllers and amateur users. You need to be a bit patient in Ireland as it is only once the sun has activated the bait for a week or two that they will release a strong scent and become extremely attractive for the entire summer months.
It saved our garden! Hard to believe how efficient it is : a must for the hot days when you have farm animals!
Much better than the ones I have been using for the past number of years.
