How Oriental Cockroaches Enter Dublin Properties

Unlike German cockroaches which spread through apartment blocks via service ducts and are introduced on food packaging, Oriental cockroaches are primarily a sewer-dwelling species. They enter buildings through drainage systems — the same route as rats — and are most commonly found in basement areas, ground floor kitchens near drains, and service areas where drains are accessible.

Finding Oriental cockroaches indoors in Dublin is often a sign of a drainage defect beneath the property — a cracked or displaced pipe that allows them to move from the sewer network into the building. In these cases, standard cockroach treatment alone will not solve the problem permanently. A CCTV drain survey may be needed to identify and seal the entry point, particularly if cockroaches are found near ground level or in basement areas and keep returning after treatment.
